I was soo soo pumped to be back on a ski mountain and enjoying fresh powder this late in the season. It wasn’t even the typical heavy/wet stuff that Mammoth typically gets so it was just perfect. When the top of the mountain opened midday, I had four runs in a row that were among the best for the entire season! The first two runs featured untracked powder lines from the top of the mountain down double blacks along with the last three featuring untracked runs down the chair 12 area (first two pictures below). That slow double is usually a fun area either way but traversing over from the top of the mountain while the lift was closed made it even better. My first run down there was completely untracked top to bottom right under the lift!! It was truly a treat. Here are the pictures:
The drive over from my motel was hilarious due to the snow/ice on the road from the night before. People were struggling to make it around that first turn. It was making me laugh so much because I couldnt get past the fact that it was MAY. I am sure nobody driving up there thought theyd face winter conditions that late in the year. Made me happy as always for the snowbaru and my tires. It took great effort to get the car to rally car slide out of the parking lot but it had to be done.
