Backcountry, sidecountry, frontcountry.
Skiing, Boarding, ssnowshoeing, snowmobiling.
Everyone who recreates in the snow should have a basic understanding of avalanches and recovery methods. In that vein I present a rip of an instructional DVD from Pieps beacons in 9 parts to instruct and inform.
find your avalanche forecast center and learn as much as you can, get the most update forecast and remember that the biggest contributor to avy death is the human factor, i.e. doing something you know is unsafe because you've talked yourself or someone else into it.
If you are headed into the backcountry, read a book. This one is great. And if you can, take a course.
Be safe out there folks.
